First blog post of 2009!  Figured I'd start this year by looking back and sharing some sample files like I used to do "back in the day".  These aren't anything really special, just some files that might be useful for deconstructing or whatever.

Scenes are in 3ds Max 2009 format.  Click the icons to Download the files. Laughing

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for sharing these... I'm keen to deconstruct your interior scene but the link for the Interior and Visible area light examples seems to be down.

Keep up the good work!

Your tips and resources are awesome, mental ray has come a long way since max 6 but without your efforts it would have been a lot less useful to me and many other people! thanks again.

What is this blackbody and where is it that I could transfer it to another light. When I click on it, in the modifier panel in advanced parameters I can drag and drop it to the material editor and vice versa. BUT, where the hell is it filewise? And how would I get to it? I would have to save it to a .mat and it is just embedded in the file?

I used Brazil but I no longer can. I really want to use Mental Ray but I really hate it so far. Help me out with any tips to just make a normal scene (floor plane with realistic shadow from a skylight) like Brazil.

Scene keeps rendering blue and I cannot find any place to change it. Is this program nothing but workarounds?

A very nice model indeed. I included a pop up note on the file that gives credit to him for the model. Just wanted to make that point clear to anyone that hasn't physically opened the .max file since I failed to mention it was his model in the text of this blog post.

Title: Amazing clay render ...
Your clay render is very impressive... I was wondering how could the shadows be altered, in order to look a bit lighter...are there any useful tips for skylight renders available? :-) Well done & keep up the good work!
